PNP

PNP

The Private Nationalism Project is an initiative of the Approach Art Association based in Pécs. The PNP is a series of international art and cultural programs. It has been realized as a collaborative effort among eight institutions from six countries. The invited artists and the 15-member international curatorial staff represent primarily the region of Central-East Europe and countries and cultures in the adjacent areas. More than 70 artists participated in the six exhibitions that have been held so far.
The project primarily focuses on exhibitions, but the artist in residence programs, the museum educational sessions and other accompanying programs are also important elements. Each PNP exhibition addressed the problems and concerns of “private nationalism” that were relevant in each of the countries involved, given that the national cases differ so widely. While the core of the exhibitions consisted of works that address the relevant problems faced in the participating countries, each of the exhibition spaces placed emphasis on varying elements of the “umbrella concept” of nationalism or reflected on the immediate context and surroundings. The varied nature of the selections allowed for shifts of focus to local problems, conflicts, political tensions, related minority questions, and sub-regions.
The exhibition is accompanied by audience-friendly programs, museum education sessions, panel discussions and film screenings.
